This book is very inspirational. When you have been dealt a bad hand of cards you don't have to fold. You can play that hand to the best of your ability. I am very proud of my classmate.
This is a must read for anyone who has ever felt damaged. It is also a must read for educators who may teach children of poverty stricken communities. This book will make you cry; it is truly a book of triumph. Dr. Cordy encourages all readers to "not settle for backseat living".
A very intriquing book which intimately chronicles life in rural Georgia for the author and his family from depression to integration. I thoroughly enjoyed his life stories seeded in poverty, segregation, and disability then overcoming these barriers to achieve the American dream. Learn how to rise from VICTIM to VICTOR! As a retired educator, I started reading "Damaged Goods..", at 1130 p.m. I tried to stop. The reading was magnetic. I couldn't put the book, down. I finished reading, the entire book, at 140 a.m. This is a very inspirational, life-impacting, life-changing as well as soul-searching easy reading, but profound, written work. It encourages doing the, seemingly, impossible in the face of poverty, other negative life forces, or societal barriers. I view this tool as a means to cause educators, parents, etc. to refocus and remind ourselves of why we do what we do, and revisit the necessary requirements needed to help students achieve their greatest potential, despite the odds stacked them before they enter the earth realm and before they enter the classroom. As stated, we have been called to "teach to the souls of children" and "effect students for eternity". I took notes. I cried. I smiled. I Iaughed. I was encouraged. I was enlightened. It is a must read for men, women, boys, and girls in this generation, and generations to come.
